Interactive Self-Study Books for Chemistry Lessons
The umbrella term “interactive self-study books” includes digital learning companions, flip(ping) books, e-books, and multitouch learning books. In all cases, they serve as digital counterparts to printed worksheets and textbooks. Beyond their names, these digital learning tools differ in terms of linearity and interactivity. Especially in the context of experiments in chemistry lessons, interactive self-study books can offer significant advantages over printed materials.
Prior to the training, an asynchronous self-study module covering the theoretical foundations will be provided.
During the training session, following a brief introduction to clarify key terms, participants will have the opportunity to explore existing learning companions developed by the Chemistry Education Working Group at the University of Wuppertal. Using provided material modules or their own documentation of a hands-on experiment, participants will then create their own interactive self-study book – also taking inclusion-sensitive aspects into account. There will also be time for exchanging experiences and expectations regarding digital learning tools in (chemistry) education.
Following the training, optional individual support will be offered for the creation of additional interactive self-study books.
